Cosmetic Stitches for Face Cuts in Pune: Fine Repair to Limit Scarring

Cosmetic stitches for face cuts are a careful repair of a facial wound: the wound is cleaned, the edges are trimmed, and the cut is closed in layers with very fine stitches lined up with natural features such as the lip border or eyebrow. This lowers tension on the skin and usually leaves a finer scar.

Very minimal cut or small incision, closed with double-layered cosmetic sutures. A very thin, minimal scar is expected after surgery.

What are cosmetic stitches?

“Cosmetic stitches” is the everyday name for a careful, layered repair of a cut, usually on the face, done to give the finest possible scar. The face is visible, has delicate features such as the eyelids, lips and nostrils, and moves constantly with expression, so how a facial cut is closed makes a real difference to how it heals.

A plastic surgeon’s repair focuses on:

  • cleaning the wound thoroughly and removing dirt or glass;
  • trimming ragged or crushed edges so they meet cleanly;
  • closing in layers, with deep dissolvable stitches taking the tension off the skin;
  • aligning landmarks precisely, such as the lip border, eyebrow and nostril rim;
  • fine surface stitches or glue that are removed early to avoid stitch marks.

Who may benefit, and how is the wound assessed?

A plastic surgeon’s repair is particularly worthwhile for:

  • cuts across the lip border, eyelid, nose or ear;
  • deep, gaping, ragged or flap-shaped cuts;
  • cuts in children, who may need sedation;
  • dog bites and other bites on the face;
  • cuts with possible damage to deeper structures.

Before repair, the doctor checks facial movement and sensation, looks for injury to the facial nerve, the salivary duct in the cheek, the tear duct near the inner corner of the eye and the bones underneath, and asks about tetanus vaccination. Suspected fractures are treated under facial fracture treatment.

What are the options for closing a facial cut?

Option Suits Points to consider
Skin glue or adhesive strips Small, clean, straight cuts under little tension Quick and needle-free; not for deep or gaping cuts
Simple stitches Straightforward cuts May leave a wider scar if the wound is under tension
Layered cosmetic repair Most facial cuts that need stitches Deep dissolvable stitches plus fine surface stitches
Complex repair with local flaps Ragged wounds or tissue loss More planning; sometimes in theatre
Delayed repair or scar revision Heavily contaminated wounds, or old scars Wound cleaned and closed later, or scar improved once mature

How are cosmetic stitches done?

  1. Anaesthesia: local anaesthetic injected around the cut; sedation or general anaesthesia for young children or complex wounds.
  2. Cleaning: thorough washing with saline and removal of any debris.
  3. Trimming: damaged edges are trimmed conservatively to preserve tissue.
  4. Deep layer: dissolvable stitches bring the deeper tissues together and take the tension.
  5. Skin layer: very fine stitches, or glue, close the surface with the edges slightly raised so they settle flat.
  6. Dressing: a light dressing or ointment.

How should you prepare, and what should you ask?

  • Control bleeding with firm pressure and keep the wound covered and clean.
  • Do not apply powders, herbal pastes or other home remedies to the cut.
  • Bring any record of tetanus vaccination.

Questions to ask:

  • Does this cut need layered repair, or will glue or strips do?
  • Have any deeper structures been injured?
  • When should the stitches come out?
  • How should I look after the scar?

What is recovery like?

Time What to expect for most patients
Days 1-2 Mild swelling; keep the wound clean and dry as advised
Days 5-7 Stitches removed; supportive tape may be applied
Weeks 2-6 The scar is pink and may feel firm; start silicone gel and gentle massage
Months 3-18 Redness fades and the scar flattens; protect it from the sun

What are the risks?

  • Infection, more likely with bites and dirty wounds.
  • Wound opening, especially if stitches are removed early or the area is knocked.
  • A noticeable scar, which may be wider, raised or darker than hoped.
  • Keloid in people prone to them.
  • Stitch marks, minimised by early removal.

Contact the doctor for spreading redness, swelling, pus, fever, or if the wound opens.

What results can you expect?

Most carefully repaired facial cuts heal to a fine line that fades over a year or more. Scars may still be visible close up. If a scar remains bothersome after it has matured, it can often be improved with scar revision surgery.

What affects the cost of cosmetic stitches in Pune?

  • Length, depth and complexity of the wound.
  • Anaesthesia: local, sedation or general.
  • Where the repair is done: clinic, hospital or operating theatre.
  • Tetanus or rabies vaccines, medicines and follow-up visits.

Repair of an injury is often covered by health insurance or accident cover; check your policy.

Questions about facial cosmetic stitches

Will a face cut leave a scar?

Any cut through the full thickness of the skin leaves a scar. Careful layered repair, lining up the edges precisely and good aftercare usually make the scar finer and less noticeable. Scars keep improving for 12 to 18 months.

When are face stitches removed?

Usually after about five to seven days. Leaving them longer can mark the skin; removing them too early can let the wound widen. Dissolvable stitches or skin glue do not need removal.

How soon should a face cut be stitched?

As soon as possible, ideally within hours and on the same day. The face has a good blood supply, so repair a little later is sometimes possible, but early closure is preferred.

Should a child's face cut be seen by a plastic surgeon?

Small, clean cuts can often be closed with glue or strips by the emergency team. Cuts across the lip border, eyelid, nose or ear, deep or ragged cuts, and cuts in a child who cannot keep still benefit from specialist repair, sometimes under sedation.

Do I need a tetanus injection?

Possibly. It depends on how dirty the wound is and when you last had a tetanus vaccine. The doctor will check this.

Can an old facial scar be improved?

Yes. Once a scar has matured, it can often be improved with scar revision surgery, laser or other treatment.

What should I do about a dog bite on the face?

Wash it with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and get medical care the same day. You will need rabies vaccination and, for bites on the face, usually rabies immunoglobulin. The wound is then cleaned and repaired carefully.
