What Affects Rhinoplasty Cost in Pune?

By Dr. Sushrut Tated, plastic surgeon

Rhinoplasty cost in Pune depends on what your nose needs rather than a fixed package: whether it is a first or revision operation, whether the septum or breathing also needs surgery, whether cartilage grafts are required, the anaesthesia, the facility and follow-up care. A reliable estimate is possible only after examination at a rhinoplasty consultation.

Why is there no single price for rhinoplasty?

“Rhinoplasty” covers very different operations. Smoothing a small hump through cuts inside the nose is a different job from rebuilding a crooked, collapsed nose with a deviated septum and weak tip after an old injury. The time in theatre, the technique and the materials change with each nose, which is why a figure quoted without an examination is usually unreliable.

What affects the cost of rhinoplasty?

Factor Why it matters
First or revision operation Revision surgery works through scar tissue and often needs extra cartilage
Extent of change A hump reduction is simpler than combined bridge, tip and nostril work
Breathing surgery Straightening the septum or supporting the nasal valves adds time
Cartilage grafts Septal cartilage is used first; ear or rib cartilage adds a second site
Open or closed approach Complex tip work often needs an open approach and more time
Anaesthesia Most rhinoplasties use general anaesthesia
Facility and stay Operating theatre, day care or overnight stay
Tests and medicines Blood tests, sometimes scans, and medicines after surgery
Splints and follow-up Splint removal, reviews and photographs over the first year

What should a written estimate include?

Ask for an itemised estimate that states:

  • the surgeon’s fee and the anaesthetist’s fee;
  • the facility and theatre charges, and expected length of stay;
  • any implants or graft materials;
  • tests before surgery and medicines after;
  • splints, dressings and the number of follow-up visits included;
  • what happens, and what it costs, if a minor revision is needed.

Comparing quotes is only meaningful when they include the same items.

Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?

Insurers usually exclude surgery done only to change appearance. When a nose blocks breathing because of a deviated septum, or is deformed after an injury, the functional part may be considered by some policies. Keep records of symptoms and examinations, and ask your insurer before surgery. The open vs closed rhinoplasty article explains how the approach is chosen, which also affects operating time.

How does recovery time affect the overall cost?

Plan for about a week to ten days away from work, and two weeks before important events or photographs. Time off, travel for follow-up visits and the splint check are part of the real cost of rhinoplasty, so include them when budgeting. Read about rhinoplasty recovery for the week-by-week timeline.

Myths about rhinoplasty cost

  • “All rhinoplasties cost the same.” The operation varies widely with each nose.
  • “A package price includes everything.” Packages often exclude anaesthesia, tests, medicines or revisions.
  • “Fillers are a cheaper rhinoplasty.” Fillers can smooth a small hump temporarily but cannot reduce the nose or fix breathing, and repeated treatments add up.
  • “A higher price means a better nose.” Results depend on assessment, technique and healing, not price alone.

What are the hidden costs of a poor result?

Revision rhinoplasty is generally more complex than a first operation. Studies of rhinoplasty outcomes report that a proportion of patients have further surgery, so choosing a qualified surgeon and a realistic plan at the start matters. Read about rhinoplasty risks before deciding.

What should you ask about cost at consultation?

  • What exactly will be done to my nose, and how long will it take?
  • Will my septum or breathing be treated, and is that part claimable?
  • Will you need ear or rib cartilage?
  • What is included, and what could be extra?
  • How are complications or revisions handled?

Frequently asked questions

Why is rhinoplasty more expensive than some other cosmetic operations?

Rhinoplasty is detailed surgery on small structures of bone and cartilage, often combined with work on the septum and breathing. It usually needs general anaesthesia and careful planning, and revision cases may need cartilage from the ear or rib.

Is revision rhinoplasty more expensive?

Usually, because scar tissue makes the operation longer and more complex, and extra cartilage is often needed for grafts.

Does insurance cover rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is usually not covered. Surgery to correct a breathing problem caused by a deviated septum, or a deformity after injury, may be considered by some insurers. Ask in writing before surgery.

Is the cost of septoplasty included?

If you need the septum straightened, it is usually done in the same operation (septorhinoplasty). Ask whether your quote includes it, and whether the functional part may be claimable.

Are follow-up visits included in the price?

It varies. Ask how many follow-up visits, splint changes and reviews over the first year are included, and what a minor revision would cost if needed.

Is a cheaper rhinoplasty a good idea?

Price alone is a poor guide. A poor result often costs more to correct than doing it well the first time. Check the surgeon's plastic surgery qualification, experience with noses like yours, and where the operation will take place.
